My parents gave me my first guitar in St Telesphore Quebec at the age of twelve. We lived on a farm. My dad was a professional fiddler and guitar player. I was in awe of his dedication, talent and musical ability. I couldn't wait to accompany him on guitar and did so for many years thereafter. My mom was a radio performer. She sang all the time and taught us many songs from an early age. My brother Luc, my sister Louise and I sang three part harmony and later formed a trio, my brother on bass and me on guitar.
Playing guitar was like a sanctuary for me, a private space with endless possibilities. I could create to my heart's content...until I got called for chores that is. I wrote the lyrics and music for my first song at the age of 14. The song was called Knipl Castle. I wrote about a 16th century Castle being attacked by a fleet of galleons.
We moved to Oshawa Ontario in late 1963.
I spent all of my adolescence on Albert Street. I met my friend Jim Mullen in 1964 We would spend countless hours practicing in his basement, Jim on the Hammond organ and me on guitar and vocals. I joined several local bands and was privileged to play with many great musicians over the next few years. Through it all, my passion was always composing and writing my own music. I moved to Calgary in 1975. I met and married Cathy, the love of my life. Family and work became a priority except for weekend gigs but I kept writing....150 songs over the years. I retired from business at the age of 67 in 2017 and built a recording studio in my home. I now record and produce my songs full time at home.
Water, mountains and forests inspire me. I try to make my music representative of my life experiences, my philosophy and my love for life, family and friends. I've worked hard, played hard, traveled, climbed mountains, loved, laughed, cried, made mistakes and have regrets. I've hit rock bottom and realized rock bottom has a basement. I paid my dues, climbed back up and have done my best to record some of it in song. If only one person relates to my music and feels comfort, I am grateful.
I don't believe we get a second chance at life. This is it so I say let's make the best of it and experience as much as we can without fear, or hesitation.
Faith, trust and love
in one hand and a shield in the other
we walk together
side by side.
Enjoy my music and please feel free to contact me anytime. I will respond to all emails and texts between recording sessions
